For more than 20 years, the Ionia- Maple Valley Community Band has entertained crowds across Michigan with their music. The group is currently gearing up for a full schedule of upcoming holiday events in a variety of local communities.

New this season, the all-volunteer band will feature a vocalist and hand bell choir. The band will play at a concert sponsored by the Portland Orchestral Society for at 7 p.m. on December 12. The event will take place at the Portland Playhouse on Main Street in Portland.

On December 4 the band will take part in the Ionia Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. on Main Street in Ionia.

Just two days later the group will play Christmas melodies both old and new at the Maple Valley Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. in the high school gym. Maple Valley’s high school, jazz and junior high bands will also be featured in the concert.

On December 13, the band will perform another joint concert, this time with the Ionia Community Choir. The concert will take place at 3 p.m. in Watt Auditorium, Ionia.

All of the concerts are free and open to the public. The Ionia-Maple Valley Community Band is comprised of musicians young and old who enjoy creating music with their instrument. The band is open to new members and there are no auditions to join.
